Customer oriented
User Centered Design is also known as UCD. User-centered design principles aim to make usability a top priority throughout development process. These principles, if successfully implemented, will ensure user satisfaction not only during initial acquaintance with product, but also during its use. Below are some of customer-facing website design principles that we have summarized. There are ten principles for reference.
1. Use plain language
Professional web designers strive to provide users with most readable words when creating products. This includes clarifying vocabulary, eliminating jargon, and simply providing job-related information.
Providing unnecessary information to users throughout use of product may affect usefulness of product. In addition, underlying language helps users complete tasks without feeling overwhelmed or confused.
2. Feedback
Users expect a response to all their actions. This may include changing appearance of screen after action is completed. If job completes after a while, it should display a loading page informing user that job is running.
Keeping users informed throughout process can put them at ease and keep them on job.
3. Maintain consistency
Maintaining product consistency is critical to delivering perfect user experience. Consistency affects how customers use a product and how long it takes to learn how to use it.
4. Provide full user control
Consumers are aware of their needs. They should be able to use product with minimal effort and rely on product to do rest.
5. Describe situation
Before designing a website, a designer must study ideal user and their needs. Designers can get a full picture of some of challenges these people face by studying their lifestyle.
6. Check out design
At this point in UCD process, designers are doing usability testing with real users of product. This stage allows designers to understand how consumers will interact with product and how it can be modified to better suit them.
7. Create a design that meets user needs
When embarking on design process, design team must examine unique characteristics of intended demographic and frequent activities in real world. In addition, productshould be suitable for environment in which it will be used most often.
Creating a product that requires a lot of work from users reduces its usability and usefulness and ultimately defeats purpose of UCD.
8. The design process is iterative
Because user-centered design is about putting user first, product developers must constantly strive to improve user experience. By gradually introducing changes, you will better understand your target audience.
9. Enough Navigation Tools
An important part of user experience is ability to navigate between pages of a website and return to previous page. Make sure users know where they are on your site and how to leave pages they don't want to see.
For example, by providing features such as a navigation map, customers can better understand how to navigate page. If a customer buys clothes, goes to checkout page and realizes they need a different size, they can easily change order without leaving current page.
10. Protection system
It should be easy for customers to navigate between pages of your website and achieve their goals. If they make a mistake, help them correct it so they can achieve their goals.
The form can ask for certain basic fields, such as square meters, and can also include a gentle reminder or warning that appears if user accidentally leaves a required field blank.
When you ask questions one at a time and provide automatic answers for each answer, customers can more readily respond to your queries and participate in conversation.
By incorporating a user-centric design process into your website design, you can create a more robust and user-friendly website that better meets needs and expectations of your users.
