Update website content
Step 1. Check SEO
Before you start updating your website, check SEO.
You may have spent a lot of time compiling content, and if people can't find your site in search engines, that time is wasted. There are many, many factors that determine how your site appears on search engine results pages or SERPs.
In order to check SEO, you will conduct an SEO audit of your website. You can use our free SEO checker to get a report on what your site is doing right and what is not.
By checking, you can get following information:
Keywords. Do you use keywords related to your business in page titles and content, title tags and page descriptions?
Page speed. Does your site load quickly on desktop and mobile devices?
Optimized for mobile devices. Does your site work well on mobile devices?
Site Security: Do you have an SSL certificate installed to protect user data?
Invalid Links: Are all links on your site valid? Are you redirecting old links to new ones?
Step 2: See what your competitors are doing
Before updating your website, find out what your competitors are doing.
See search results for keywords you want to see how these top pages ranked in positions you want. Do they use keywords in title? Do they have multimedia elements? Look at general content on their website. What is your competitor doing better than you? Could you make a video or write a long article on topic?
Step 3: Add media
When updating content of a website, add media elements to website.
Multimedia elements such as photos, graphics, and videos look great on site and can break up any text areas on site to grab viewer's attention.
Pages with longer content also perform well in search engines, but it can be difficult to keep track of 1200 or more words. If you use rich media between text, you give readers a visual breather and encourage them to stay on page longer.
The longer people stay on your page, more likely you are to rank higher in search results.
However, when adding media elements, it is recommended to compress any images and embed videos from different host platforms.
Step Four: Test your site
You can test variations of your site to see which ones your visitors like best.
Your changes can be small but still make a difference, like tweaking copy on main page a bit or adding a call to action.action next to price table.
Step 5: Re-edit old content
If your site has a lot of content, it's definitely worth taking time to revisit old one to give it a new look.
Let's say you're an accountant and wrote a blog post a few years ago about how to fill out tax forms. A few years later, some parts of this tax form have changed.
Instead of creating a completely new post, go back and edit parts of old post that are no longer relevant. The same goes for content using any statistics. In a year or two, numbers may change, so it's certainly a good idea to make sure your website content is as accurate as possible.
