Creating a website color scheme is an important and exciting aspect. Web design colors are a key component of your corporate branding, and they also help convey important messages to users as they interact with your website. Because of this, choosing a color always requires careful planning and testing.
Company website color matching
So, in process of designing a corporate website, what issues should be considered when coordinating colors of a corporate website? We believe that it is necessary to pay attention to following elements.
Potential user settings
Color is very subjective and your clients may gravitate towards color you like or color that is trending right now. But it's important to think of website visitors first, rather than focusing on individual color preferences.
Think about who your target audience is and what their needs are. For example, is your target audience elderly? If yes, make sure they can view content easily. The design process should include color contrasts, large text, and clear color indication. What if your audience is younger? A visually interesting, vibrant and playful web palette will encourage their participation.
Main color and phrase
After you decide on main color, you can choose appropriate color. Primary and corresponding colors should be coordinated with particular attention to usability and accessibility.
For example, make sure there is enough contrast between site elements and background so that colorblind users can easily distinguish different parts.
Also, watch out for color changes on web pages, as you may notice differences in white, gray, or primary colors (light, light, or dark) when browsing your favorite sites.
Specific colors
There are various elements on a website such as navigation, menus, call to action button, etc. How can I identify their colors?
It's a good strategy to separate primary, secondary, and neutral colors.
Primary Color: This is where user's attention is drawn. Calls to action, buttons, and any other important information should use primary colors.
Secondary colors. Complementary colors are used to highlight less important elements. Secondary action buttons, less important text, and anything else that doesn't require immediate attention should be displayed in a secondary color.
Neutral/complementary colors. Neutral colors are often used for text, backgrounds, or other colors that shouldn't compete for attention.
Mature brand color matching
No matter what stage client is in, know what is already accepted in market (and therefore should not change) and what opportunities exist for change.
Take, for example, Coca-Cola, one of most popular brands in world. What color do you imagine?
Most people would say red. Consumers are accustomed to seeing brand in stores, restaurants and other places. To maintain brand's image, Coca-Cola website uses red for integration.walkie-talkies with all brand. However, a solid red website isn't easy to use, so other accent colors (such as black and white) are included. Red as main color with accent colors creates a cohesive look.
Reputable brands most likely have documented brand guides, and any web palette guides exist. If this applies to your client, choice of color theme for their website will be predetermined to some extent. But as a designer, you still have option to choose secondary colors in your design or test visual impact to find perfect match.
New brand colors
For new brands, there may not be an existing color catalog, especially if site is being created for first time. If a brand guide needs to be established in this case, it is important to review website's color scheme before it is fully deployed.
